UltraViolet PAC Endorses Abortion Rights and Reproductive Freedom Champions Ahead of 2022 Midterm Election

Says Abortion is on the Ballot This November, We Must Come Together to Defeat It

WASHINGTON, DC — Today, UltraViolet PAC, a leading national gender justice PAC, announced a new slate of endorsements for the upcoming 2022 midterm election. 

Building off its first round of endorsements after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade, UltraViolet PAC is endorsing twenty candidates in key midterm races who openly support abortion rights and access to reproductive healthcare.

UltraViolet PAC’s bases endorsements on four factors: (1) if the race is critical to protecting reproductive rights, (2) if the candidate has spoken publicly about the importance of abortion rights in the last four weeks, (3) if the candidate has voiced their support for abortion rights and reproductive freedom on the record, and (4) if the candidate is competing in a winnable race.

“Abortion is on the ballot this November. To protect women’s rights, reproductive rights, LGBTQ+ rights, Civil Rights, BIPOC communities, or anything in between, we need candidates to take action,” explained Shaunna Thomas, co-founder and executive director at UltraViolet PAC. “We live in a new reality, a post-Roe reality, in which the rights of women and pregnant people to control their own bodies are rapidly disappearing. We need fighters, and these candidates are true champions for abortion freedom.”

2022 is the first year that UltraViolet PAC is endorsing in both Gubernatorial and Federal races with  explicit acknowledgement that the fight over abortion rights and reproductive healthcare access is a state-by-state battle. 

UltraViolet’s support  for  endorsed candidates will include paid media and grassroots campaigning.

For UltraViolet PAC, supporting the expansion of abortion access is an important element in choosing which candidates to endorse, but not the only criteria. All UltraViolet PAC’s endorsed candidates have gone on the record to condemn the relationships between the politics of hate, fear and gun violence, and have explicitly rejected white nationalism and right-wing extremism. These candidates are also champions in the fight against misogyny, homophobia, transphobia and gender-based violence.
